Food Is...

I had a friend in college who used to taunt me.  "Sharon, food is NOT love.  Food is not love."  Yeah, okay... if you're Richard Simmons!  Peddle your BS fluff somewhere else.  My experience in Korea says otherwise.  I've been eating like a adolescent boy with a tapeworm, and I couldn't be happier.  Food has not only been love, it has been comfort, joy, therapy, and, of course, sustenance.

So to honor food in the best way I know how, I'm going to showcase all the things that I've been enjoying so much.  And may you bask in the radiant glory that is Korean food.

Myeong Dong kal gook soo and steamed beef dumplings

Galbi Jjim with sides of dotori (acorn) mook and kimchi chigae. How ingenious is it that they put dduk (rice cakes) in the galbi jjim?!?

This is a classic: the aluminum delivery tin for jjajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce) with tang soo yook (Korean sweet and sour pork).  And just fyi, I ate this and the galbi jjim mean above all the same night.  Holla!

 +  =
Hot pot of dduk, ramen noodles, jjolmyoen (chewy rice noodles), hard boiled egg, fish cakes, onions, scallions, carrots, and red pepper paste plus friend dumplings equals steaming hot deliciousness.

And let's not forget the sides (girl not included)...

Tigim (assorted fried foods) and candied goguma (sweet potato)
The amazing grand total for this meal... 10,000 won (or 8 bucks for the two of us)!

Mmmmm...
