Yellow Haze All In My Brain... (Hendrix was NOT ready for this y'all)

This isn't just another ill-worded euphemism for "asian invasion".  Yellow Dust or Asian Dust (satellite image from KBS) is a bonafide meteorological phenomenon that takes place out here, primarily during the springtime.  Read the wiki link for specific details, but I'll go ahead and give you the synopsis.  Basically, this is dust that comes from the Gobi dessert (and other regions of Central Asia) and makes its way across China towards Korea, Japan, and even all the way to western coast of America if conditions are ideal.  I suppose the dust in itself wouldn't be so terrible, but the path through China introduces a good deal of industrial pollutants into the mix, making it an environmental hazard that's fun for the whole family.  Yum!  I was so thrilled to have made the trip just in time for a season of what will probably end up looking like this in Seoul...

Now, I was one who was vehemently opposed to wearing the FOB surgical masks around.  (See example compliments of Joongang Ilbo) It seemed excessive and anal...until now.  I am willing to concede the utility of the less-than-fashionable accessory and am joining the rank and file of Koreans who proudly cover up their faces in the name of not ingesting Chinese industrial pollutants!!  I am NOT about trying to get high off that yellow dust, or mutate, or whatever it does to you.  We'll all worry about looking cute some other time.  I'll throw up the pic as soon as I go out and buy my first mask.  =)

And just for your listening pleasure...
